A friend and I recently visited Salt Point and, after spending the day seeing the tafoni formats, we decided to drive and have our picnic dinner at Fisk Mill Cove. A few years have passed since I visited the cove and I was surprised to see that the state wanted to charge $8 for our stay. We retreated to Stump Beach where there’s no fee.
After dinner, as the fog creeped in, we walked down the path to the beach proper, standing on a rock outcropping along the north side, as close to the water as we could safely get. As we watched the waves a jelly fish swam by. I’d never seen a jelly fish in the wild before. Then another and another. Some gold, some white, all different sizes. It was amazing.
We chose to leave as the fog slid in closer. One of the jelly fish, a golden one, had washed ashore and we stopped to look. Then we saw a clear one near it. As we walked along the beach we realized that more than 30 jelly fish had washed ashore. It was magical.
